A skill book does nothing in a fight until it sits on the rod you are holding. The developer FAQ is explicit: unattach the skill book on the old rod before you attach it to a new rod.
Attach
- Own the book. The tutorial roll is free. Later Skill Master spins cost Coins or Robux, and the Skill Market sells a few named books for Gems.
- Open Equip, then Skills.
- Select the book and a free key. Z is the first slot. X, C, and V open as that rod levels. No public table lists the exact level for each extra slot.
- Start one ordinary catch and confirm the skill key works.
Move it
Buying a rod does not move books. The message “You cannot equip more than you own!” appears if the book is still stuck on the previous rod.
Unattach it there, then attach it to the new rod. One Island 6 race quest wants the book loose in your bag and shows 0/1 while it is equipped. Turning that quest in consumes the scroll.
A separate walkthrough warns that a remove confirmation can destroy a high-rarity book permanently. Read the dialog. Unattach, which the FAQ describes, is the move. A delete warning is not the move.
When to press it
Early use leaves the skill on cooldown at the white marker. For a normal catch, save at least one ready skill for that marker. A race or rod quest can instead demand that a named skill lands the finishing hit. Wear the bar down first, then press that skill, or the counter may not move.
Spare books
Some Snow and Island 6 quests ask for an unused book, including a caption that calls one of them Taj Hooking. Do not attach your last copy just because a slot is empty. Slots and spare quest books are different inventories.
Great Heaven-Equal Fishing Art, the Common book shown in the tutorial, is listed at 42x damage over 12 hits with a 5.5 second cooldown. It is worth moving onto the Iron Rod. It is not a complete skill list. A creator count put the full book roster at 36, and this site does not have every card.
